Florida 2026 - Day 44 Myakka River site 5 (2/28/26)

Irene got me the duck night light that was the hit of the family Christmas white elephant gift exchange. I am so excited! Also a great card. We went into Sarasota for the farmers marked. Discovered the best chocolate chip cookies in the world from Beekman Bakes. We picked up a key lime pie to share with Doug and Michelle for my birthday. Oh and the picture below of my toe is a couple of bites I got from something that put a mild damper on my birthday.

Florida 2026 - Day 43 Myakka River site 5 (2/27/26)

Today we hiked into the deep hole where it is not uncommon to see upwards of 200 alligators. Today there were perhaps 80. The deep hole is a 135 foot deep sink hole that captures many fish and keep the alligators fed. The walk in was extremely pleasant but on the way out is was hot! Around 5 miles round trip.

Florida 2026 - Day 41 Jonathan Dickinson site 111 (2/25/26)

We went to Riverbend park again to do a different hike along more waterways. Then walked from our site over to the river and found a path through some mangroves.

Florida 2026 - Day 40 Jonathan Dickinson site 111 (2/24/26)

Spent better part of the day at the Jupiter lighthouse. A great little park with a museum covering the history of the area. Also the presidential yacht the Honey Fitz is parked across the river from the park.

Florida 2026 - Day 38 Jonathan Dickinson site 111 (2/22/26)

On our way from Sebastian Inlet to Jonathan Dickinson we checked out Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge. The jungle road through the area was scenic and we got a good dousing just as our hike ended :)
